Atelier V&A Building a Creative Playground and Living Brand - Singapore

Introduction: Atelier V&A marks a defining chapter in the evolution of Hills & West. Conceived as a showroom, studio and living brand, the project brings together spatial storytelling, sculptural furniture, collectible objects and florals under one roof. It is not simply a space to display products, but a platform to build narrative, community and long-term creative value.

Co-founded with Venetia Gu, Atelier V&A reflects a shared vision of craftsmanship, thoughtful design and intentional growth. Where Hills & West centres on building brand narrative, storytelling, product design and spatial curation, Atelier V&A allows these ideas to be expressed at a larger scale, bridging design, craft and industry uniqueness.

Crafting the Space: the showroom was designed as a series of chapters rather than rooms. Each zone invites a different pace, mood and interaction, from sculptural entrance moments to quieter, layered compositions that encourage pause and reflection. Furniture, florals, vessels and objects are curated to feel lived with rather than staged, allowing visitors to imagine how pieces might sit within their own spaces.

Materiality plays a central role throughout. Marble, timber, metals and textiles are layered to create contrast and depth, celebrating texture as a form of storytelling. The space evolves constantly, allowing collections, collaborations and installations to shift over time.

Building the Brand: beyond the physical environment, Atelier V&A is a study in brand creation. Every element, from spatial flow to product naming, visual identity and storytelling, has been developed to support a long-term vision rather than a single moment. The showroom functions as a testing ground for ideas, limited collections and collaborations with artists and makers, both local and international.

Venetia leads operations, production in the working atelier in Singapore and working closely with trusted workshops and suppliers across Asia, including long-term partners in China. This structure allows us to balance creativity with rigour, ensuring that design intent, quality and delivery are aligned at every stage.

Media & Cultural Visibility: From its inception, Atelier V&A was designed with media, storytelling and cultural relevance in mind. The showroom functions not only as a creative space, but as a backdrop for editorial features, interviews and brand narratives that extend beyond its walls.

Through a considered approach to positioning, visual language and story-led launches, Atelier V&A has garnered attention across design, lifestyle and cultural media. Coverage has highlighted the studio’s focus on craftsmanship, emotional storytelling and its role in shaping a new kind of creative space within Singapore’s design landscape.

Media engagement has been supported by ongoing relationships with editors, stylists and creative communities, alongside curated events, collaborations and installations that invite conversation rather than promotion. This traction reinforces the studio’s role as both a destination and a voice within the wider design ecosystem.

Since launching, Atelier V&A has received coverage across media including:
– Harper’s Bazaar Singapore
– A+ Singapore
– Solitaire Magazine
– Tatler Homes Singapore

Coverage has centred on the studio’s layered storytelling, emotionally driven design language and its positioning as both a showroom and a living creative platform.

Reflection: Atelier V&A represents what is possible when interior styling extends beyond individual projects and becomes a living ecosystem.

Firstly, it affirms my belief that spaces can tell stories in the same way homes do. When furniture, art and objects are curated with intention, they create emotional connection rather than decoration.

Secondly, co-founding the brand has reinforced the importance of strong operational foundations. Creativity thrives when supported by clear systems, trusted partnerships and shared responsibility. This balance allows ideas to move from concept to reality without compromise.

Lastly, the project has deepened my commitment to working with makers and artists. Atelier V&A provides a platform where craftsmanship is visible, valued and celebrated, allowing each piece to carry meaning, not just function.

Outcome: Atelier V&A now stands as a showroom, studio and creative base for future projects across residential, commercial, retail and collaborative work. It is a natural progression for Hills & West, where interior styling, brand creation, and product storytelling sit seamlessly together.

Working from home

I’d say this is one of the most beautiful home ateliers I’ve seen in Singapore. The space is stunning and such a source of inspiration. Every product is so thoughtfully curated, and the craftsmanship of the furniture is exceptional. I especially love that the team custom-makes everything to suit your needs. Beyond the interiors, the customer service and overall experience were outstanding. I would highly recommend visiting this atelier — it’s truly a gem!
